Back to Software Page

Q: What's new in version 1.1?

A: See separate 'What's New?' page.

Q: Does CookieCruncher support Internet Explorer?

A: Not yet. But it will support it in a future version.

Q: Will there be a MacOS X version?

A: Probably.

Q: Does CookieCruncher work with MacOS 9.1?

A: Yes. CookieCruncher works with all MacOS versions from 7.5.1 up to 9.1.

Q: What's the difference between the 'Always Delete' and 'Remove' buttons?

A: If you hit 'Always Delete' on a cookie (or a domain) this cookie (or all cookies in that domain) will be deleted in the cookie file every time CookieCruncher finds them. If you hit 'Remove' these cookies will only be deleted once.

Q: Can I use CookieCruncher with Netscape 6?

A: Yes. CookieCruncher, as of version 1.1, supports all version of Netscape up to version 6. Only the automatic recognition of Profiles is not yet supported with version 6.

Q: How can I migrate my cookies from Netscape 4.x to 6.x?

A: Install Netscape 6. Set up a new profile. Make sure that you access a site which does set a cookie in order to let Netscape create the cookie file. Quit Netscape. Open this newly created file ('cookies.txt') and the old cookie file in CookieCruncher. Copy your old cookies to the new file with 'Drag&Drop'.

Q: How should I set up Netscape when used with CookieCruncher?

A: Set Netscape to accept all cookies ('Edit->Preferences...->Advanced->Cookies') and run CookieCruncher frequently to remove unwanted cookies.

Q: How can I backup my cookies?

A: Open the cookie file in CookieCruncher. Select 'File->Save a Copy as...' and save it to another location. Now you can open this backup copy again with CookieCruncher and use 'Drag&Drop' to copy stored cookies back into your active cookie file, when needed.

Q: Why can't I find any cookie file on my Mac?

A: Check if Netscape is set up correctly (see above). Also you have to access a site which does store a cookie before Netscape creates a cookie file. If you still can't find any cookies please contact the author at schaffner@artclip.ch.

Q: Is it save to use the "Run & Quit" feature of CookieCruncher?

A: Yes, since CookieCruncher does only delete cookies you set to 'Always Delete'. If it finds new, unknown cookies it will not quit. I you want to be absolutely secure you can create a backup copy of your cookies using the method described above.
